Laura F. Jacobs, MD, PhD
Dr. Jacobs founded NormaTec in 1998 to develop an effective clinical modality for treating serious peripheral vascular diseases. She developed and patented the Peristaltic Pulse pneumatic waveform that is the core element of NormaTec's FDA-cleared medical equipment, and now guides the company's overall growth and direction as President and CEO. A frequent invited lecturer at professional conferences, Dr. Jacobs is an internationally-recognized expert in the treatment of peripheral vascular disorders, including venous insufficiency, lymphedema, and chronic wounds.
Prior to founding NormaTec, Dr. Jacobs served five years as Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Cooper Hospital / University Medical Center in New Jersey, a major academic and teaching hospital.
Originally from Philadelphia, Dr. Jacobs' undergraduate degrees in Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering and PhD in Bioengineering are from the University of Pennsylvania, where her doctoral thesis investigated the mechanism of electrically-induced osteogenesis (bone-healing). Dr. Jacobs earned her MD from Temple University School of Medicine, and is Board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). She is a certified wound care specialist and a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA).
Elizabeth Jenkins
One of NormaTec's first staff members, Liz joined NormaTec in 2004 as the assistant to Dr. Jacobs. She gained wide expertise with a range of medical insurance and related matters and also made substantial contributions in other areas as the company grew.
In 2008, Liz began managing NormaTec's medical records, billing, collections and related company functions. She later took on major responsibilities as Managing Director of Operations, and in November 2010 became the company's Executive Vice President. Her purview is the company's daily operations and fashioning and implementing company policy.
Liz's background includes work in molecular biology, and her research was published in the peer-reviewed journal Matrix Biology. She received both her undergraduate degree in Human Biology and her Master's degree in Molecular Biology from Brigham Young University.
Gilad Jacobs
Gilad leads NormaTec's Sports Medicine division, which he established in 2007, and is responsible for sales to pro teams, top college and Olympic programs, and elite and amateur athletes.
Gilad completed an undergraduate degree in Communications at the University of Pittsburgh.
David Kerstein, MD
Dr. Kerstein works with Dr. Jacobs and other clinical staff at NormaTec to enhance and extend the company's research efforts with Pneumatic Medicine. These include developing and conducting clinical trials, including the Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) study NormaTec is now conducting with NIH funding. His broad scientific and medical background is an important contribution to these and allied efforts.
After completing an undergraduate degree in biology and an MD, both from Tufts University, Dr. Kerstein took specialized international certification in clinical trial monitoring and research.
Peter Novello
Peter's responsibilities include overseeing all manufacturing requirements, managing our supplier relationships, helping coordinate product engineering and development, overseeing customer service and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
As a senior engineering professional, Peter has extensive manufacturing, technical and business background. He spent more than a decade at a Medtronic subsidiary; directed operations at a high-tech medical device firm; and owned his own electronics manufacturing company, which he later merged with a larger firm. His wide experience also includes ISO Quality Systems, scaling up manufacturing and maintaining supplier relationships.
An accomplished fisherman and gardener, Peter is also active with youth soccer & scouting. He received an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Lowell Technological Institute, and both an MS in electrical engineering and an MBA from the University of Lowell.
Aparna Rolfe
Aparna joined NormaTec in July 2008 and works closely with Dr. Jacobs and others in the company focused on Product R&D.
Previously, she worked for Hewlett-Packard, designing and evaluating inkjet printer parts to enhance performance. Her professional background also includes energy harvesting research.
Aparna earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.
Lea Cassetta, RN
As one of our in-house insurance specialists, Lea's role at NormaTec extends to an array of insurance-related matters, and she works with patients, prescribers and healthcare insurers to help secure coverage for our equipment.
A nurse by training, Lea spent twenty years with Mass Pro, the MA medical quality improvement organization, the last five years there as operations director and President of its subsidiary, Vital Solutions, Inc., a company dedicated to accreditation work with insurance companies throughout the state. Prior to that, she was a patient-care nurse, including a long stint in an area hospital's emergency room.
Lea completed GPN studies at Southeastern Technical Institute and qualified as an RN after graduation from Laboure College. Her background also includes studies in the Management certificate program at Boston University.
Beth Stephens, RN
Beth joined NormaTec in 2006 as a nurse Telephone Relations Specialist and later became Director of New Projects. As such, she works closely on a variety of new company initiatives involving clinical programs, bettering our patient care, and customer service.
Beth has fifteen years' experience as a registered nurse and has worked in a variety of specialties including student health, family practice, med/surg, and orthopedics. Beth's Nursing degree is from Johnson County Community College in Kansas.
Sue Anderson, RN
Sue oversees our specialized clinical program for patients seen through the Veteran's Administration (VA). She works with Prosthetic Purchasing Agents, prescribers, and patients alike to ensure high satisfaction and great results. Among her many responsibilities, she develops and implements processes and procedures for our clinical staff and serves as their primary clinical resource.
A highly experienced hands-on nurse, Sue has more than thirty years of wide-ranging clinical background, including ten years in pediatric nursing and seventeen years in interventional cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Sue's RN is from Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing and she received a BS in Nursing from Northeastern University.
Mary Larkin, RN
Mary joined NormaTec as one of our first Primary Nurses and works closely with our patients nationwide to offer the clinical expertise they need to achieve the best possible outcomes using our device. As are all NormaTec's nurses, Mary is very involved with our prescribers, making sure that they receive high-level customer service. Additionally, Mary sees patients at NormaTec's clinical office and participates in company clinical exhibitions at medical conferences and gatherings.
An RN for more than thirty-five years, Mary's clinical background includes hospital work with intensive care patients, service in a pediatrics office and seven years of clinical research at Boston University School of Medicine.
Mary studied nursing and received her AS degree at Alfred State College in New York.
Michelle Morais, RN
Michelle offers expert clinical input to our patients nationwide to help them get the best outcomes possible using the PCD. Additionally, Michelle sees patients here at NormaTec and participates in our clinical exhibitions, all to help assure high-level customer care. As is the case with all NormaTec's nurses, she is also very involved with our prescribers, making sure that they receive high-level customer service.
Prior to joining NormaTec, Michelle was a staff nurse in adult medicine at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center, working with orthopedic, trauma and neurology patients. Her background also includes peer advising in her nursing school honors program and she was the recipient of several honors and scholarships.
Michelle's nursing degree (BSN) is from the University of Massachusetts (Lowell).
Susan Rajotte, RN
One of our first Clinical Team members, Susan began with NormaTec in May 2004 as a clinical nurse specialist. Her current primary responsibility is that of Prescriber Relations, educating prescribers and their staff on the benefits of Pneumatic Medicine and walking them through the ordering process. You can occasionally find her at NormaTec clinical exhibits and at professional conferences representing NormaTec and educating clinicians.
Susan was certified by the Case Management Society of America more than a decade ago and has thirty-five years of nursing experience to her credit. Her background includes both clinical work and nursing management roles.
Susan received a Diploma in Nursing from the University of Detroit.
